How does dotphoto handle metadata? Where is my metadata?

Modified on Wed, 3 Sep at 4:45 PM

dotphoto stores original photos in JPG format, so the metadata is preserved.  However, if the file is in Apple HEIC or another file format that must be converted to JPG for storage, the metadata is lost. For example, if you upload a JPG file, edit it, and download it, the file will lose its metadata when it is re-saved.

Apple strips out metadata when sending photos. Apple's approach to metadata stripping when sending photos is a common practice across various platforms. This is often done to protect user privacy and prevent the sharing of sensitive information, such as location data.
