Most accounts should display relatively quickly, though choke points like a lack of system resources or a slow video card can seriously slow down a computer. If re-starting your computer does not help, consider your album organization.
When an account has thousands of albums, it can slow down dotPhoto's ability to sort and present albums, and to accomplish tasks like link generation.
One way around that is to organize your albums as sub-albums of years, so that your older albums can be found in 2005, 2006, etc. dotPhoto has an automatic process that will organize thousands of albums by year.
